The Importance of International Apprehension

As discussed in many of our previous articles, global empathy is key to becoming a successful global citizen. In addition to this characteristic, it is important to be aware and care about the issues that may not necessarily affect us directly — although this can be a new concept for some. One problem that personally upsets me is the blatant disregard of human rights violations that are occurring around the globe. For example, there is a genocide happening right now in China and a modern slave trade happening in Libya, yet the world is silent. Many of the mainstream news outlets are also not broadcasting or bringing awareness to many of these issues.

As stated previously, there are many humans rights abuses occurring all over the world at this very moment. For example, China is conducting a present-day genocide. The ethnic Muslim minority (Uighurs) that reside in China are being targeted in an attempt to ethnically cleanse their population. Uighurs are forced to pledge loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party and renounce Islam, as well as sing praises for communism and learn Mandarin.
